Seventh Army’s battle, 16–19 December. While LXXXV Corps broke through 28th Division on Seventh Army’s right, LXXX Corps struggled to establish a bridgehead across the River Sauer.

To the south, CCA, 9th Armored Division was ordered to withdraw to a new defensive line through Waldbillig, Ermsdorf and Ettelbrück on the night of 18/19 December. Although the move extended the gap in VIII Corps’ line, 276th VG Division was not in a position to exploit it because its assault guns had not crossed the Sauer. Although the infantry captured Waldbillig they could not advance farther.
