CHINESE THROWING IMPLEMENTS

The Chinese martial arts are well known for empty hand fighting systems as well as for weapons fighting systems. A wide variety of weapons, including swords, spears, knives, and staffs of varying sizes and shapes are part of the Chinese weapons fighting tradition.

While many Chinese weapons and empty hand fighting systems have be come household words, there is a little known branch of study called hidden weapons.

These weapons are “hidden” in the sense that they are carried covertly on one’s person and become visible only at the time of use or they are visible but are not designed for use as weapons or are so commonplace that most people will not consider them weapons (ordinary pebbles, for example).

This branch includes an extensive array of weapons, which can be grouped under three categories:
