Ramona tells Mrs. Rogers that her pantyhose are wrinkled like an elephant’s legs. Somehow, this doesn’t have the same effect as when the curly-haired girl said the same thing to her mother in the pantyhose commercial on TV. Dockray’s illustration focuses on Ramona attempting to be adorable and includes just the teacher’s legs, whereas Rogers shows the teacher in her entirety, including her less-than-amused expression.

Now that he’s unemployed and Mrs. Quimby is working full time, it’s up to Mr. Quimby to attend the parent-teacher conference. While he’s meeting with Mrs. Rogers, Ramona gets swept up into fantasy land, imagining herself as a commercial actor on television and making a crown like a boy wore in a margarine commercial. For this cover, Tiegreen plays with the timeline, bringing Mr. Quimby out early to discover Ramona among the burdock plants across the street from the school, coronating herself.
