Yes, it is a funny story but it’s also tragic, isn’t it? Obviously, he had violated one of the cardinal rules of effective asking. He had not been specific enough in his request! Well, the same is true for the wishes and requests that you make. They need to be specific if you want them to be granted.

So—one last time, be very specific in all of your requests!

When making any request, whether it be of yourself, the universe or another person, be as specific as possible. The two important aspects of specificity are how much and by when. How much do you want and by when do you want it? You may not get it exactly when you want it, and you may! But in either case, everyone involved is now clear.

What doesn’t work is any of the following:

Whenever you can get around to it.

Whenever it is convenient.

Sometime soon. (What’s soon? Today? Tomorrow? Next week? Next month?)

Next week sometime.

Later today.

Whenever.

You know.
