Savings Tips For Automobile Expenses
Obviously this one is partly set in stone. Most have to drive to work and run errands for basic necessities. However, there are ways to save on gasoline and car maintenance expenses.
Gasoline
The first consideration is how much unnecessary driving are you doing? Can you cut your trips or combine your errands? There’s an app for that! Seriously! If you know the errands you need to run, do it all in one day on one slick route using free apps that plan the shortest route for you. It does wonders for saving gas money!
Here are some other tips:
• According to FuelEconomy.gov, accelerate gently, maintain a steady speed, anticipate traffic to adjust without quick reactions, avoid slamming on brakes and slow down to drive efficiently.
• Keep your tires at proper inflation for most fuel-efficient driving.
• Remove extra weight.
• Reduce idling. We often turn the car off in a drive-thru and certainly when waiting for someone.
• Keep vehicle maintained.

• If you don’t want to change the oil yourself, look for oil change coupons, coupon books or online deals for local or nationally known centers.
• Do repairs yourself. Car parts dealers can help you diagnose the problem, print off instructions and direct you to videos on how to repair your issue, while also loaning you the tools, all for free if you buy the parts through them.
• If there is something you can’t do, ask around for referrals for car repairs. We have found the locally run auto repair shops seem to be the best value.
• Many tire stores will test tires and inflate for free and give even more benefits if you buy tires through them. Some of them offer free pre-roadtrip inspections.
• Sam’s Club or Costco have great deals for new tires.
Insurance
Insurance is another spot in which you can save quite a bit. It’s a category in which a lot of our readers have found some surprising savings after paying the same rates for several years. Giving just a bit of attention to this category might yield one to two month’s worth of 2 percent cuts!
All of these ideas will apply to auto and home insurance and most will also apply to life insurance.
• Get a new quote annually. Get new quotes from other carriers and your current carrier to see if you can find a lower rate with the coverage you desire. Be sure the quotes you receive are for equal coverage as this can drastically change the rate.
• Have insurance companies compete. With your new quote, you can either switch providers or take this quote to your current provider and see if they will compete for your business. If you have been
