I don’t get a second to myself for the next hour. Hell, I might not be able to even go to the bathroom by myself if the way the whole team is banded together is anything to go by.

My ceremony made all the big manly men emotional and now they all need comfort hugs. So who do they go to? Me, of course. Well . . . They come for the bear hugs. I know it, and they do as well.

I see Drew, though, walking quickly—always quickly—from one end of the tent to the other, to the house, then back out. He’s in constant motion and I realize I’ll only be able to talk to him once we leave. I’m not going to screw up this chance for him. There are a lot of potential clients at this party, a lot of big names since the two men I just married are the definition of big names.

I get caught up in a way-too-intense talk with Hulk—Eagle’s legendary father—about how his son has progressed and gotten better the longer he’s in the league. I get some compliments, which make me uncomfortable, when his best friend—and the Jules Dupont version of the nineties—Paul Wayne comes over and agrees with him.

When it’s time to sit down, I run away gratefully, and as soon as I’m settled, I find Drew again and track him all over the place. If someone talks to me or asks me a question, I don’t hear it or react, because I’m transfixed by what I see when he takes a deep breath, and looks over at me.

I can see the rage simmering, barely contained, but I also know Drew’s a consummate professional and he’s getting shit done left and right. Drew’s in his element, and it doesn’t matter if he’s upset that he didn’t hear the truth from me first, I can’t turn back time and make sure that never happens. Right now is his moment—and Jules and Sterling’s of course—so I won’t be doing anything but watching him for the rest of the day.

When the wedding is over though? Then I’m not gonna back down. I have to make it right. I will make it right no matter what it takes.

Truth is, I let this go on for too long because I’m scared, and now the worst of my fears have actually happened, and I have to face them head on.

Through all the tumultuous emotions of the day, I can’t help but feel awed at Drew the whole time as well. He’s so damn good, passing around microphones right before the speeches, talking to servers constantly, giving orders to the DJ and to the people who are helping out at the buffet table.

The arrangements look just as good as they did the last time I saw them, while I was watching tape with Drew only a few feet away from me. He was putting them all together and forbade me from helping him.

“Who’re you staring at?” Bates asks from next to me.
