TABLES

Creating and working with tables

Tables consist of rows spanning horizontally with vertically

positioned columns.

Some web designers consider tables as being such great

habitats for data to be aligned using cells they will fill every page

with such convenient layout. Tables are very adaptable and can

provide an excellent means for displaying various types of data

in a comfortable setting ...but it should NOT be used for the

purposes of designing a web page due to a distinct lack of

knowledge in other areas for two main reasons:

1.

Search engine spiders find it difficult reasoning with

importance of data within a table or indeed reading

anything substantial. In the interests of Search Engine

Optimisation as well as screen readers, it is not good

practice to use tables other than for valid objectives, such

as facts and figures.

2.

A good professional web designer should know how to

control, design and master the art of design as opposed to

declaring to the world their inadequacies. Tables are

good ...but not good enough to hide the lack of

fundamental knowledge a web designer must possess.

However, tables are excellent for various content, such as text,

numbers, images, multimedia, hyperlinks …almost anything!
