Chapter Seven

There was a bunkhouse of sorts above the huge garage that stood separate from the house. Behind it, a basketball court was built into one side of the pavement to give the team something to do in their off time. It worked out well. We now had a security team of ten, not including Michael, Logan, or Rudy, with at least five on the premises at all times. All of the team were shifters, eight men and two women. Every last one of them had been vetted by Michael, Brent, and Howard Cook, the Los Angeles district attorney. I hated the idea that we even needed security, but I didn’t argue the need.

There were too many strange and potentially dangerous people who were watching us now. I wasn’t against paying to keep us safe. Michael even said we got a great rate, as many shifters wanted to be close to the grand dame for prestige.

The day after our visit from Gabriela, I took a trip outside. I rounded the corner of the garage, trying to remain unobtrusive in the shadow of the building as I approached the basketball court. The main security office was attached to the garage, so it was a good place to start looking for Brent. In any case, Logan was there. He must have gotten back sometime during the night, despite what he’d told me about staying in town. I really hoped I wasn’t the reason for his early return.

Luck was with me—Logan was with Brent. Both dressed in shorts, Logan wearing no shirt, the two men I sought were playing one-on-one. Figured Logan would be bare-chested. It was warm for spring, so sun glistened off the sweat that covered his golden skin, which in turn covered carved muscles that rolled smoothly in feline grace. When he jumped to shoot a basket, I could almost see the regal lion in him leaping, great paws outstretched. Brent was no slouch, mind, just not as much my type. Big and burly, he almost looked fat until you got a good look and realized all that bulk was muscle. For Leashed 4: Tangled Leashes
