Arthur reached out, and was just about to take the cloak, when he suddenly had an idea.

“Let me see it on you first,” he said to the maid.

“Oh no, no, sir, I couldn’t possibly wear this,” she gabbled nervously. “This cloak is for someone else entirely. I mean, this cloak is meant for a king.”

“But I insist,” said Arthur, beckoning to two of his knights. “Come on. We’ll help you put it on.”

The two knights gently took the heavy cloak from the flustered young woman and placed it around her shoulders. Then they leaped back in surprise and amazement, as the maid burst into flames! In an instant, she was no more than a pile of smouldering ashes on the floor.

The great hall fell silent. All eyes turned towards Arthur.

“That evil, cowardly, vicious, scheming serpent!” he hissed, almost purple with rage. “So this is her idea of a peace offering. I’ve had enough of her trickery and her lies.” He glanced around the hall to make sure that everybody was listening as he raised his voice to a thunderous roar that rattled the rafters and could be heard deep in the darkest dungeons of Camelot.
