Grace tightened the last tiny screw on the temperature sensor, then stepped back with a satisfied smile. "Okay, that's it. All done."

Scottie tipped his head, impressed. "Wow, that was quick."

"It's not hard if you know what you're doing." Grace picked up the old temperature sensor and tossed it onto the workbench with a clatter. "Could you please turn the main breaker back on? I want to power this up and see if it works."

"You got it." Scottie flicked the breaker, and the overhead lights blinked on, making them both cringe and squint as their eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness. The soft beeps and whirs of the equipment filled the air as everything came back online, and Grace watched the inverter intently, her eyes scanning the displays until a grin spread across her face.

"It looks good." She grabbed her multimeter and touched the probes to the new sensor, studying the readout. "Oh yeah, that's nice and stable. Way better than the old one was. We'll have to wait for it to heat up a bit to see if the fans come on, but I'm pretty sure we fixed the problem."

Scottie shook his head in wonder, unable to take his eyes off of the beautiful and skilled farm girl. "You are seriously amazing, you know that? I can't believe you know how to do all of this stuff. You're just so smart and talented and just… awesome."

Grace ducked her head as a blush prickled into her cheeks. "It's not that big of a deal. I've just been doing this stuff for a long time."

"No, I'm serious. You're incredible, Grace."

"Well… I have a good little helper."

"I really was only a little help, wasn't I?"

"Hey, not everyone can flip a breaker like you."

"It's these big strong fingers of mine." Scottie grinned. "You see? You teased me when I said I do grip strength exercises, but who's laughing now?"

Grace giggled and shook her head. "I'm glad I could put all of your intense physical training to use." She went to the workbench and nestled the unused components back into the packing foam and closed the cardboard box. "Let's get this put away then go inside and make sure everything powered up okay."

She hefted the heavy box and climbed back up onto the rickety stool, awkwardly twisting to get her balance. The rubber tips of Scottie's crutches squeaked against the concrete as he dashed over beside her. "Whoa, careful there. I don't want you to lose your balance again."

"Jeez, what are you, my mom? Don't worry. I'm fine." Grace stretched on her tiptoes, her lean muscles trembling as she concentrated on balancing and lifting the heavy box at the same time. She managed to haul it up over her head and get the corner onto the edge of the shelf, and with an off-kilter push, started tipping it back into place. "See, I told you I could… agh!"

The old stool pitched to the side and Grace let out a yelp as gravity took hold, pulling her down from her precarious perch.
