Chapter 13

Isabella

I heard the shots. Three of them. They all rang out into the night, even though they were suppressed. It was a good thing that we were on 500 acres or I was sure that some nosy neighbor would be calling the cops or dropping by with a shotgun to join in the fun.

My arm ached from behind stretched up above my head, and even when I sat up, I couldn’t seem to get comfortable. I was twisting and turning on the bed, trying to relieve some of the numbness in my arm when I heard footsteps on the stairs of the cabin.

Immediately, I felt my mouth go dry. The front door swung open and then shut and whoever had just come in locked it.

I needed it to be Nicolo. As much as I wanted to get the fuck out of his cabin, I wasn’t stupid. There were people in the woods sent to kill me. He may have…kidnapped me, but at least he kept me safe.

Or he had, up until that point.

It had to be Nicolo. I saw the way he walked across the cabin without slowing down, without faltering. He obviously knew his way around the space and was headed right towards me. I swallowed hard, feeling my heart throb in my chest, completely ignoring the way I couldn’t feel my arm.

It didn’t matter. None of it mattered. My life had completely fallen apart, but Nicolo was the one thing I thought I could depend on.

“Nicolo Y?” I called out. The shape paused outside the door and I felt my stomach drop.

“Isabella.” He paused before saying my name and I realized that I’d been holding my breath. I let it out in a hard exhale as he walked towards me across the room. He smelled like blood – the bright copper scent filling my nostrils.

“Are you hurt?” I asked, but he didn’t answer. He was on top of me, his mouth crushing mine as he forced my lips open. I moaned into his mouth, bucking my hips up as he straddled me.

It was good. It may not be the right thing, but it was exactly what I needed right then, and I wasn’t going to turn him away.

“Are you – ” I started to ask again, but he stopped me, his thumb rubbing roughly across my lower lip. I opened my mouth without hesitation and he slipped it in, allowing me to lick and suck it. Then he was the one who moaned and he reached down, lifting my shirt up so that he could palm my breasts.

His skin was salty and hot and I lapped at his thumb, imagining what it would be like to be on my knees in front of him. I wanted to worship Nicolo, not because I had to or because I was scared for my life, but because I was drawn to him in a way that I’d never felt before.

It was terrifying.

And exhilarating.

“I want you,” I mumbled around his thumb and he groaned, shifting his weight off of me so that he could strip his pants down.
