Chapter Thirteen

Aladdin walked the halls of the palace whistling as he went and pausing to say hello to passerby and servants.

Their reactions amused him immensely.

After his transformation into a prince last night, Igor accompanied him to his rooms shaking with fright the entire way. Once they had reached his rooms for the rest of his stay, Igor had fled as if the hounds of hell were chasing him.

Grinning at the thought, he supposed he was quite menacing and was used to that kind of response but usually only after he had grown angry with someone.

“Fine morning we are having, is it not?” Aladdin said, spotting a maid with a load of gilded breakfast trays, holding back a snort of amusement at gold breakfast trays, he smirked. “Where might the grand vizier be?”

The comely maid blushed profusely and bowed low. “He’s normally at the pleasure harem this time of morning, your highness.,” she said, the pink glow on her face turning to red.

Aladdin gave her a wink and a smile, striding past her heading towards the back gardens.

It felt strange not having to sneak around to get where he wanted. He reached the massive doors that opened to the back gardens.

After opening them he saw that the gardens were even more beautiful in the daytime. Butterflies flitted around stopping to land on exotic flowers in front of him. It was very tranquil in the gardens. The air smelled fresh and clean, the sounds of trickling water from a bubbling brook and the light chirping of birds breathed around him. A calming effect poured over him instantly with the hushed and melodious sounds.

He looked down at the pebbled walkway and started towards what he assumed the large building that looked to be a smaller version of the palace sat in the distance. After reaching the door, he had no idea if he needed to knock or not. Having never been inside, he didn’t know the lay out of the building and didn’t know if he would walk in on something he shouldn’t.

He hadn’t told Lucian, but he had been inside the palace several times. He of course didn’t need to know that. Grinning to himself he started to knock, but out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a woman curtsying to him holding linens, obviously attempting to get inside. He opened the heavy door for her, which elicited a gasp of surprise.

Smiling to himself at his mistake, he brought his finger to his lips. “Shhh. This will be our little secret.”

The woman blushed profusely and curtsied again stepping inside and rushing away.

The pleasant aroma of burning incense greeted his nose as he paused at the threshold. The floors were buffed to such a high sheen that he could see his reflection. The walls were covered in gold and burgundy colored silks. After venturing past the entryway, thick carpeting met the soles of his boots, and hushed whispers could be heard. A grimace etched across his face as he walked cautiously toward the voices.
