There are two types of aquaponics: one is fresh water aquaponics and the other is saltwater aquaponics. The freshwater aquaponic system consists of three major components:

Freshwater fish + nitrifying bacteria + plants.

While the saltwater aquaponics requires only two components:

Saltwater fish + seaweed algae

Each one component of this system needs to be in perfect balance with its ecosystem if you want to establish a highly productive aquaponics system.

PLANTING IN AN AQUAPONIC SYSTEM

There are many, many plants that can be grown with the aquaponic system. Be prepared to experience stupendous growth with your plants. Owing to the water and nutrients they get, the plants tend to grow up to 4-5 times larger than regular plants, which is a delight to the eye and of course exceptionally good in terms of crop.

Just like regular planting, this, too, has its own method of planting for best results. The secret to keeping this system working at its best is to learn to maintain the balance between what the plants consume (for their growth) and the fish waste. It is easy once you start going; it is much easier “done than said” in this case.
