Theodore Stawarski: Can he manage a state if he can’t manage his team?

I look underneath the disgusting headline on the Enchanté website, my heart thrumming in my chest, and spot the writer of the article.

Georgina Harris.

I slam my fists on my desk. Alex, my brother’s campaign manager, jumps in alarm, but I ignore him.

A rage more violent than what I felt the last time Georgina wrote about us pounds through me. But then, there's a small twinge of disappointment as well.

Because I would never have expected this. And not just because my plan seemed to be working.

But because I sincerely thought we were getting closer.

“Thought you had her under control,” Theodore says.

I look at him, taking in the vein pounding on his forehead. We are in my office, the same room I fucked Georgina. We’d just returned from a rally when the news broke. Apparently, Tony, the social media director, who’d been calling in sick for a few days, was rumored to have stolen quite a bit from us.

And Theodore had not figured it out until it was being broadcast in the media across the country.

“She’s right,” I say, my anger at everything being channeled toward Theodore now. “If you had the common sense to manage your campaign team, you wouldn’t be going through this shit right about now.”

Theodore looks at me like he wants to break my jaw. “Well, then,” he says, “if you let the campaign team do what they were trained to do and not try to make this a fun little game, maybe they’d have handled it so well that another stupid article wouldn’t have slipped through her fingers.”

I start to take a step toward Theo, but Pam stops me in my tracks.

“Guys,” she says, holding up a hand like we’re two erring children, “this is not the time.”

“She’s right,” Alex says with a pinched look on his face. “We’re in real trouble here. Also, this isn’t exactly about Georgina Harris—for once. This is about the fact that someone on our team did something despicable, and the media caught wind of it. Georgina posting her article has little to do with our main problem.”

I resist the urge to grab Alex by his skinny little neck and tell him that I know. That I’m well aware that our problems exceed Georgina writing another cheeky article about the campaign and the Stawarski brothers. That I should be pissed at Tony and no one else.

That Georgina was just doing her job.

And yet, all I can think about is how angry I am that she did this without checking with me.

“We have to do something,” Pam says. “Release a statement or get out there…just something.”

A headache is pounding furiously in my skull.

Right now, I don’t care about my brother’s election or what the media is saying about him.

All I want is to see Gigi.

I reach for my phone and shoot her a quick text, asking for us to get together later tonight. As I send the text, my heart
