If a foster youth in your care exhibits any of the above signs of developmental lag, do not hesitate to bring these behaviors to the attention of the youth’s caseworker. The caseworker will want to work with you and the rest of the youth’s care team to develop an individualized treatment plan as quickly as possible. This plan will likely include one-on-one counseling with a qualified therapist.

Their expectations of themselves—and everyone else’s expectations of them—are changing, seemingly overnight. Being a teenager in foster care can be even more challenging.
