Okay, did I hear her right? She was imagining a future with me in some sort of role. Truthfully, from the very beginning, she seemed to be emotionally in tune with me, though lately it wasn’t quite the same. I had been taken with her as much as I had been with her painting. I had even imagined all sorts of scenarios including adapting to a Bohemian lifestyle with a famous painter. Quite a fantasy, wasn’t it?

But now, I wasn’t so sure. However, I couldn’t deny the pull. There was some reason for the connection and attraction. I set aside all of the thoughts swarming in my head. Darn that painting. It seemed to have convoluted my uncomplicated, tranquil life.

After supper I tried calling both Ana and Sara. Neither answered and the minions of technology sent me to voice mail. After three attempts to each of them, I concluded that Sara did not want to talk to me and that Ana was either in the clutch of new love or was too embarrassed to tell me what happened. I shrugged and left voice mails.
