Her eyes shimmering with tears, she made for the bedroom before they spilled over.

Wade's fingers closed over her wrists just as she got to the door. "Ah, honey, I've hurt you," he murmured contritely, turning her into his arms and pushing her head down on his shoulder. "Don't you know I hate hurting you?" But you hurt me all the time, Storm wanted to cry out through the tears that were soaking his shirtfront. Instead, she quavered,

"You insulted me, sending Josie here to check on Jake."

"Storm, I told you I didn't send Josie over here." Wade's words were muffled in her hair. "I never thought for a minute that you wouldn't take good care of Pa. I don't know why I said that about Jeffery."

As his deep voice soothed her, his hands stroked up and down her back. It felt so good, even if it was the same way he used to calm her tears, her hurts, when she was a child.

Suddenly Storm's body grew still. Wade's caressing hands had slid along her sides and now cupped the soft curves of her small rear end. Her body rippled with sensuous delight when he pulled her into him, her hips fitting snugly into the well of his. She felt his throbbing masculinity against her thigh, and when she slowly rubbed against it he groaned deep in his throat.

Storm pushed the thought of Josie and the woman in Cheyenne to the back of her mind as she was faced with the utter hopelessness of her rejecting Wade if he should want her. God help her, she still loved him desperately.

Forgotten were the resolutions she had made as her arms swept up to encircle his neck. She leaned into him and he shuddered.

"God, Storm," he moaned, slipping the gown over her head. She sighed as he stroked a hand over her tight stomach, then up her narrow rib cage. And while she held her breath, waiting, his palms finally settled over her passion-filled breasts.

Her breath became labored as his fingers gently tweaked her pink nipples into jutting firmness. When his mouth, hot with need, covered one and suckled urgently, she gasped her delight and pressed his head more closely to her.

Lost in a mindless bliss, she whimpered protestingly when Wade pulled away from her. Avoiding her glazed eyes, he said hoarsely, "It's time for all little girls to be in bed."

She stared up at the resolute set of his jaw and wondered dazedly why Wade was holding back; he was just as aroused as she.

Storm pushed herself back into Wade's arms, determined that whatever was his trouble concerning her, it was going to end this night. She could no longer ride the emotional seesaw he had her on.

Her fingers slid open a button on his shirt, then another and another, until she could slide a hand inside and stroke his broad chest. "I don't want to go to bed," she whispered huskily. She raised her head and kissed his throat. "Not alone."

Wade's pulse raced against her lips and his muscles corded beneath her caressing fingers.
