Chapter Ten
Slade
I was never nervous before a show. To me, playing music in front of a hyped crowd was when I felt more alive. The nerves didnât get to me, and I certainly didnât need a Xanax to chill out. Weâd been practicing for a long time and I knew everyone would be impressed with our sound. Scotty and Razor were still irritated with me, but theyâd gotten over it for the most part.
I headed to the bathroom backstage then barged to the sink. I splashed cool water on my face because I was so warm. It was a ritual I did before every show. After I patted my face dry, I turned around.
Dee was leaning against the wall smoking a cigarette. The way her lips were pressed tightly together told me she was on edge. Iâd never seen her smoke, and I had a feeling she only did it once in awhile.
âYouâre going to be fine.â Maybe a little encouragement would keep her calm.
âI just get nervousâ¦â She took another long drag.
âEveryone gets nervous. But donât let it get to you.â
âAre you nervous?â She crossed one arm over her chest and propped up her other arm.
âNo. But I never get nervous.â
âI wonder what thatâs likeâ¦â She blew smoke through her nose.
âYou know what I do?â
âPicture everyone naked?â she said sarcastically.
âNo.â I kept a serious face. âI pretend a scout is in the crowd and heâs going to sign me once the set is finished. I stop caring about the crowd and only care about him. Iâm telling you, it works.â
âInteresting approach.â
I crossed my arms over my chest. âDee, youâre amazing. Come on, youâre a better guitarist than I am and we both know it. Theyâre going to love you. Just chill.â
Her shoulders relaxed slightly. âIâm not sure why I get nervousâ¦â
âYouâre never nervous when it comes to anything else,â I argued. âYouâre usually one badass chick. Come on, I want to see her. Whereâs the no-bullshit attitude?â
She finally smiled. âSomewhere deep in thereâ¦â
âThen let her come out to play.â I patted her shoulder then headed to the door. âCome on, we got a show to play.â
Razor came down the hall with his drumsticks in his pocket. âYour wife is looking for you.â
âMy wife?â
He gave me a smartass look. âWho else has a wife?â
I rolled my eyes and stopped myself from punching him in the face. Then I turned to Dee. âYou want to meet her? Sheâs a sexy chick.â
Dee chuckled. âWell, Iâm not into girls so her sexiness doesnât matter.â
âNo, you donât understand how sexy she is. She makes straight women turn les on a daily basis.â
She rolled her eyes. âYes, I would love to meet her. But I still love dick.â
I laughed. âOkay, come on.â We headed to my dressing room. Trinity stood there with her arms across her chest. She wore skin-tight jeans and a cropped shirt that showed her toned stomach. She looked like a badass dressed in black. Her blonde hair was in spirals, and her heavy make up made her look too hot to touch.
