Ignoring Rene’s running commentary, Oz spoke directly to London, “Where did you hear that word?” Hurrying on to avoid what happened earlier, he added, “No, I don’t think you’re crazy.” He loved that she laughed at the reference. They’d made so much progress in such a short time. London was his match in every way. Maybe, just maybe, the Universe really did know what She was doing. “I only ask because, while you were unconscious, I was pulled into The Shimmer to have a little conversation with my dad…who, by the way, has been dead for about a hundred years.”

“No way. Really? The Shimmer, huh?”

“Oh yeah,” he answered, knowing things were about to get even weirder.

“Cool name. I was in a place that sounds kinda the same, and my mom was there. Sadly, she’s also already passed away.”

“Sorry, Sweetheart. I can feel how much it still hurts.”

“Thank you. It does.” She took a quick breath. “But it was nice to see her.”

“I know. I was there.”

“You were in the exact same place that I was?”

“Sure was.”

Not responding right away because quite frankly, he was shocked, Oz was just about to ask why a woman he’d never met, and who was already in the Heavens, would take his side. Instead, he was further astonished when his sassy, stubborn Mate admitted, “And she was right. If I would’ve just swallowed my pride, things wouldn’t have gone so far off course.”

“Nope. No way.” Oz adamantly objected. “You’ll not shoulder the blame. It was…”

“Look, my momma always said not to get in between a man and a woman when they were hashing things out, but I’m thinkin’ we’re closin’ in on the desert and y’all have yet to give me even the tiniest clue what a tetrad is and what it has to do with this Demon we’re about to face.” Rene’s voice was light but to the point and he was absolutely right. Oz could’ve kicked himself for once again losing focus, but London was fascinating. He wanted to spend the rest of forever discovering everything about her.

But that will have to wait…

“If it is a Demon,” Oz wondered into their minds before snickering, “And your momma was right, but I’ll let ya’ off the hook this time.”

“Yep,” London quickly agreed, making the sides of Oz’s snout curl up in a grin. “Sorry, Rene. Too much going on and runnin’ on no sleep makes me loopier than usual.”

“No need to apologize. I’m real glad things are workin’ out for y’all, I just
