Moving slightly south westwards we come to Keith Junction, now just known simply as Keith, which is on the Aberdeen-Inverness mainline. Originally, this is where the GNSR from Aberdeen met the HR from Inverness. There was also a GNSR branch to Dufftown and Craigellachie. A heritage operation, the Keith & Dufftown Railway, operates a DMU service between Dufftown and Keith Town, with ambitions to extend to Keith (Junction). This shot taken on 28 May 1955 features class D40 No. 62265 (former GNSR class V) at Keith Junction. This was one of the earlier Pickersgill non-superheated engines, none of which received names. Built in 1909, it lasted until January 1957. (John McCann/Online Transport Archive)
