Nichole left Delroy and Huma to relax by themselves. She had all the information she needed to put a plan together to get Delroy where he needed to be. She walked back up to the main house and repeated Delroy’s story to everyone. She had to repeat it because since they’d gotten Moon off the island, they’d killed the interior cameras and the mics at the guest house.

“So how do you want to handle it, Sis?”

Nichole thought about the question. When she answered, it surprised everyone. “I’m wondering if maybe the direct approach might not be best.”

“What do you mean?” Linda asked.

“I mean we simply drive up there and ask. It’s been twenty years. Who holds on to their anger for that length of time?”

“Plenty of people,” Wu said. “Moon proof of that. And no disrespect, but maybe you and Nicky are too.”

“Moon is a sociopath,” Nichole said without inflection. “That’s not what we’re dealing with here.”

“And you know this how?” Lola said.

“I don’t. I’m simply tossing it out there as an option. I floated the idea past Delroy and Huma before I left.”

“And how’d that go over?” Carlos asked.

“Delroy wouldn’t hear of it,” Nichole said. “Not out of fear, mind you. He simply didn’t think it would work. Huma thought it might though, and I tend to agree. Not everything has to be cloak and dagger all the time. Every once in a while all you have to do is ask. If they say yes, Delroy gets what he wants.”

“And if they say no, they’ll know he’s on the island,” Linda said. “And nearby.”

“Who is this guy…the father?”

Nichole looked away before she answered. “It’s Roje Brenner…you know, of Brenner Construction.”

Nicky threw his hands up in the air. “Roje Brenner? C’mon Sis, you know better than that. He’s one of the most powerful guys on the island, and he owns more than a construction company. His import, export business is his real money maker. The construction gig is nothing more than a laundry for what he really does, which is smuggle dope. We’ve had our eye on him ever since we set up down here. There’s no way he’s going to forgive and forget and let Delroy waltz in there like it’s yesterday’s news. This is his daughter we’re talking about. He’s more secluded than we are, and he’s protected.”

Nichole finally relented. “Okay, okay. It was a thought. So let’s get some ideas on the table, because not only is Delroy counting on us, sooner or later, Roje is going to find out he’s here on the island.”
