Chapter Five: Sales
Be able to describe what your business does in less than five words
Most of the time you won't have the luxury of being able to deliver a full pitch for your business. Make sure you can describe what your business does in as few words as possible, preferably less than five words. The person you pitched will ask you to tell them more about your business if the five words you chose to describe your business are compelling.
Practice your pitch, get feedback, and refine it
Whether you are delivering five words or less, a 15 to 20 second elevator pitch, or a 15 to 20 minute presentation, it will get better with practice and tweaking from the feedback you receive. If you want to deliver a great pitch, it takes lots of practice. The pitch you give today will look much different from the one you deliver months from now. As you share your business and what it does with your audience, you will get insights about your presentation from their reactions, questions, and feedback. Be open to use this feedback to perfect your pitch with small iterations time and time again.
