Lacey
âHey Lacey.â Frost smiled from his place at a long table. âSo good to see you.â
Hey Lacey? So good to see you? I was going to kill him. Kill him. Was this a joke? âWhat is going on here? Why did Elron just pull open the door?â
âWhy donât we continue this conversation inside.â Jared gestured for us to enter and pulled the door shut behind him.
âWe thought you were kidnapped. Or detained. Yes, thatâs the word the naked nymphs used when they came for us.â Anger boiled up inside me. And confusion. I didnât enjoy either sensation.
âNaked nymphs?â Panic crossed Frostâs face. âPlease tell me they didnât visit with everyone.â
âWith everyone?â I struggled to keep my anger down. It was boiling, and it was going to blow soon. âYou mean Wren?â
Frostâs eyes darkened.
âOh no you donât.â I laughed dryly. âDonât even start. I am so angry at you I donât have words.â
âOkay. Letâs calm down here.â Jared made a downward motion with his hands. âShe didnât tell me anything I couldnât have filled in the details of myself. You would have saved a lot of time being honest with me from the get go. And we are all on the same side here. Okay?â He turned to me. âRemember, we are done with the bad guy narrative.â
I wasnât worried about what side Jared was on. I stepped within inches of Frost. âExplain yourself.â I was so exhausted I struggled to stand, but that didnât mean I was going to back down. âWhy would you do this? Lure us in? Stay away from Wren? Sheâs been so worried.â
âOkay. Calm down, Lacey. I can explain everything.â Frost reached out a hand toward me, but I stepped away.
I walked right into Creighton. He put his arms around me, and I immediately felt better. Still annoyed at Frost, but under control. How odd to need to flee a childhood friend for the embrace of someone who was a stranger until so recently. âStart explaining.â
âHow about you explain.â He eyed Creighton behind me.
âWe cannot leave.â Elron stayed completely calm. He also stayed a little ways off from me. âOr at least we can not return to any of the places we want to.â
âWhat?â I needed more information than that.
âOkay, first who is this guy?â Frost pointed to Creighton. âYou didnât answer my question.â
âNor have you adequately answered mine.â I was no longer bubbling with anger, but that didnât mean all was forgiven. âBut to answer your question, this is Creighton. He helped us in Icentris.â
âI helped you in Icentris?â Creighton nudged my side. âIs that all I am?â
âOkay. Heâs my, uh, well, we have a connection.â
âAh.â Elron nodded. âEnough said.â
âYou found your wolf too?â Frostâs face relaxed. âWhy am I not surprised? You and Wren do like to match things up.â
âYes, since finding a mate is something a royal Fae can plan out.â I was annoyed, confused, and so ready to lie down.
âIâm just sayingâ¦â
âPlease just answer my questions.â I knew I sounded like I was begging, but I didnât care.
