I thought we were never going back. I was so happy. When I realized we’d be heading home, the disappointment was crushing. Of course, my sister, only seventeen at the time, couldn’t take us anywhere else. But, my eleven-year-old self thought we were out.

The disappointment of the potential buyers saying one thing and then doing another illuminated that old picture for me. Both incidents involve a response to disappointment and expecting one thing but getting another.

I would have sworn I had healed that years ago, but another layer had surfaced. With gratitude, I took the opportunity to acknowledge the eleven year old within, clear old disappointments from my space and come more fully into present time.
