‘Quick!’ Gwen shouted to Flora, realising there was no time to lose. ‘Let’s get out of here before they manage to free themselves.’

‘But what about the dragonfly?’ demanded Flora. ‘We’ve lost it now!’

Gwen searched the air, desperately hoping to see the insect’s fluttering wings. ‘No we haven’t. There it is!’

She pointed to the dragonfly hovering a short distance ahead of them. It seemed to realise that they couldn’t continue the way they had been heading. Turning round, it darted off the path and lead them straight through the trees.

Gwen and Flora charged after it, with the wolves’ howls still ringing in their ears. The dragonfly led them past hawthorn bushes and horse chestnut trees, through hazel groves and past an enormous oak tree, until finally they came to the edge of the forest and into a clearing. Then they saw it – a dark grey rocky cliff with a cave at its base.

‘We’re here!’ exclaimed Gwen. ‘That looks just like the cave we saw in the image on the Lake.’
