B turned away, waving her protests aside.

“Stop it, and let me be. It’s been a long day and I’m tired.”

Skipping dinner, B went into his room and lay down. With an arm resting on his forehead, he thought for a long while before falling asleep. At midnight, he woke up and went to get some water. As he walked past his daughter’s room, he saw a light on. He glanced in and saw her still studying. Tiptoeing to the outer room, he quietly poured himself a drink of water, then went back to bed. But he could not sleep. They now had invaded even his home and influenced his wife to stop him. This was just the beginning. He wondered what would happen next. He pictured the horrors of the cultural revolution that he had heard about: family members separated from each other, your grown children forced to work in remote mountain areas and their residency permits revoked, and many other such stories. Exhausted after a stressful day, B finally fell into a deep sleep.
