Renald acknowledged it, things had gone considerably bad, awful even. The only thing he had gotten out of this was his dream, his goal. However, the cost was heavy. For all intents and purposes, the Knights of Kilead were most likely ruined. Of course, there were still a hundred remaining Knights in Kilead, but over half of the manpower of Kilead had been decimated, and it was all because of him.

In retrospect, there were probably better ways to go about it. He could have still warned everyone and run away when the time came. There were other ways for him to fake his death too. And yet, he had opted for the most psychopathic solution there was.

It was clear to him that at some point he had gone wrong. The question was: when? When did he go wrong? And he thought, he reminisced on the past.

When he had first enlisted as Knight he had been full of drive for justice, but eventually he realized that there was no true justice. Bribes ran rampant, everything needed to be justified, he couldn’t act on his own, and eventually, he grew to stop caring for such things.

Eventually, only his selfishness began to make sense to him, that’s why he wanted to retire, that’s why he didn’t care about handing his position to someone else, and that was…

Renald wanted to say it was wrong, but at the same time he wanted to justify himself, he wanted to say that things weren’t all that bad— but deep down he knew the truth, he was wrong. At the same time, he had dug a trench for himself, a very deep pit he’d never be able to escape from now.

The Knights were dead, he had relinquished his position to someone else, that admittedly probably would give it back should he just ask. But still, Renald didn’t know what to do now. He wanted to redeem himself somehow, but he had no way of knowing how to go about things.

He didn’t open his eyes, but he sensed the two peculiar woman that Yan had brought. They clearly weren’t Knights, but they were participating in the operation that was initially meant to be an assault against Soulblade.

Should he help them?

Renald didn’t know what the right answer was, in the end, he decided to think about it for the time being.
