Mananan watched Ella sleeping in the middle of his bed. She was wrapped in blankets and didn’t look like she was going to wake any time soon. He slipped into the bathroom, took a shaky breath, and pulled down the side of his pants. Emblazoned on his hip, at the top of his V, was a glowing rune.

A mating rune, his mind corrected. Suddenly the craziness of the last few weeks was starting to make sense. He had been drawn back to her part of the ocean because she was there. His magic had been trying to tell him something, and he had been too dense to figure it out.
