Conclusion

The experience of this multi-family group has further strengthened the partnership between families and the institution. Both have been helped to join around the common goal of improving and enhancing the quality of life for residents. They have been successful in initiating several changes. In terms of the group itself, member families have been able to use the experience well. They have been open to learning new knowledge and skills, which has facilitated a more positive and helpful involvement not only with the institutional setting, but with their relative, as well as with other families. For those who have left the group because their relative has died, the experience continues to be a source of comfort to them. Several families have written to the group expressing much pleasure in having been part of such a concerned, productive and supportive group of families. They wish the group continued success and state that they will think of them often. This form of acknowledgement and appreciation further validates the 10th floor multi-family group and provides yet another incentive for the group to continue on.
