CHAPTER SIXTEEN

A while later…

awakened by a soft, persistent knocking and moving carefully so as not to awaken Snow, Nerdy slipped out of bed to answer the door.

“What?” He whisper-hissed as he opened the door to find Sweet with a tray of food and a pot of coffee.

“I thought our girl might need food,” Sweet offered quietly. “How’s she doing? How are you doing?”

“She’s sleeping. I must have drifted off too. Fuck Sweet, what the hell are we doing? I know how Growly and Handy feel, and it was pretty obvious Grumpy—well….”

“I know. Charming is a lucky fucker. She is everything Debi said and more.”

“You have no freaking clue. She’s so—perfect. How do we watch Charming claim her, have her around all the time and not…?”

“We all owe him everything, Nerdy. You know he kept us together, gave us a start, hell, he gave us this lodge—destiny and all,” Sweet answered, then with a sad look, continued, “and still, I have no clue how we do that.” With that, Sweet pushed the tray into Nerdy’s hands and walked away.

Nerdy watched his brother’s departing back for several seconds. Sweet didn’t say much, but when he did speak, his words always held weight. Charming had funded his first year of college until Nerdy was able to secure his scholarship. Before that, he’d protected and guided all seven of them, made them a family, and stayed true even when he found his first family. Nerdy owed him more than most, but Snow did things to his heart that he didn’t understand. Blowing out a frustrated breath, he stepped back and closed the door.

Placing the tray on the nightstand, he perched beside Snow on the bed. She slept so peacefully that he hated to disturb her, but he needed to create some distance between them while he still thought he could.

He brushed a wayward lock of hair from her face, then feathered his fingers over her cheeks. “Princess,” he whispered. “It’s time to wake up, sweetheart.”

Snow’s soft, breathy protest spoke directly to his cock, nearly crushing his fragile resolve to distance. “Sweet made breakfast, baby. Come on, you need to eat,” he pressed.

Instead of following his cock’s lead, Nerdy turned and poured a mug of coffee, then sucked the scalding liquid down in a series of brutal gulps, the pain a useful distraction. He poured a second mug and held it out to Snow.

Bare-breasted, Snow drew a deep breath and stretched. Nerdy swallowed a moan at the sight, handed her the cup, and moved to find his pants.

“How are you feeling, princess, are you sore?”

“Mmmhmm, a little achy, but okay, I think. Um, thank you, Nerdy, that was—” she answered, watching him pull his pants on from behind her mug. “Are you okay?”

“Me? Yeah, I’m good, princess. Are you hungry?” Nerdy glanced over his shoulder and noticed the heat in her eyes as she watched him. Coughing to cover the low growl that rumbled in his chest, he rounded on her and stalked toward the bed.
