The raised voices inside Blake’s hotel room made me hesitate at the door. The loyal Rottweiler stood beside me, glancing right and left down the hall, probably checking for any sign of the Old One.

Curiosity stopped my hand from knocking for just a moment as I listened.

“So are you going to tell her or should I?” I recognized it as Dean’s voice. “Because we both know what that Logan Richards guy is after, and it’s not eighteen slopes in the middle of backwoods Appalachia.”

“She’s not going to sell it to him. She’s living here now.” It was Blake’s voice.

“For now, she is. What’s stopping her from leaving?”

Dean’s question was answered with silence.

Dean laughed quietly. “Oh, you think she’ll stay for you? When are you going to learn not to mess with supernatural women. Need I remind you of a certain someone locked away in the prison underneath us. Can you even remember her name?”

“That wasn’t my fault,” Blake said. “I didn’t know what she was before we dated.”

There was a long pause.

Then footsteps approached from inside the room, and I sucked in a breath as Dean whipped open the door.

“Hello, Natalie… again.” Dean said, his electric blue eyes lighting up as he smiled down at me.

I lowered my hand, taking a step back. Benjamin pushed his way past me into the room.

Behind Dean, Blake stood in the center of the hotel room, his hands on his hips. I couldn’t see his face because Dean pressed his hand against the door frame, blocking my view into the room with his body. “To what do we owe the pleasure?” he asked jovially. “Wait, let me guess—you’re also here to apologize about the whole blaming me for compelling you thing, right? Let me save you the trouble by saying that all is forgiven if you just admit to my brother and I that you enjoyed our little moment together.”

“Don’t make me throw up.” I ducked under his arm. “I’m still pissed at you for going along with that when you knew I was being compelled.”

Dean’s eyes followed me into the room. “So now I’m the bad guy for dancing with you? You’re the one who hired that manipulative musical vampire. You’re lucky he stuck to the oldies. You should hear the lyrics in some of those modern love songs. Absolutely filthy.” Dean shook his head. “If anyone should feel taken advantage of, it’s me,” he said. “Though, I’m sure my brother doesn’t see it the same way.”

I gritted my teeth. “You know, I really, really don’t like you.”

“That’s not what you said downstairs.” Dean’s dark eyebrow lifted.

“I’m not attracted to you whatsoever. Everything about you disgusts me.” He was making me so mad. I knew I was being immature by even engaging with his teasing, but it had been such a long night.

Blake watched me, his forehead lined with concern. “Is everything ok? Why aren’t you in your room?”

I glanced at Benjamin, who circled around me and trotted back over to the door.

“Stop wasting time, Natalie,” the dog growled.
