Chapter Eleven - Snow

Even with the warmth of Clover’s lithe arms around me, I’m still sure that I dreamed the night before as I wake.

I’ve spent my whole life uninterested in marriage beyond its use as a political tool, with no understanding of what people could want from romantic love.

But now, with Clover next to me, I’m sure that if someone had presented me with the idea of a wife instead of a husband, I would have found much more interest.

But then, despite Clover’s words, it was ridiculous. Even she was speaking as a fantasy, and thinking on it now, I’m sure that she hadn’t meant anything more than she wished she could give me the protection of a marriage, not that she was interested in romance. No, I had been the one to bring that up.

But still, as ridiculous as it seems... In Clover’s warm embrace, it also feels like anything is possible, as long as we stay together.

Clover stirs next to me and I turn to face her. As she wakes, she smiles, and as soon as she opens her eyes and sees me, she leans forward, kissing me once more.
