Chapter 8

Lock Up

WE HAVE DECIDED THAT if we are going to beat her we needed to start thinking like her. So, I had a plan that we were going to falsely plant in her head that we are going to Berlin Germany to visit some old contacts. We have people in Germany that we haven’t worked with in a while. Deception was the name of the game. So I took the bug and we met up in the team room. We talked about where we were going to be, we even mentioned an address that is down the street from where we were actually going.

The mission was that we would arrive many hours before the stated time frame, plant the bug in another area, and wait for her to show up. Hopefully we would catch her on the street before she could disappear into a building. I chose the perfect vantage point that would have good line of sight with all of the buildings that I thought she would think to set up in. Playing the waiting game is the nature of the beast in this business.

We got to Berlin and drove to meet our contact in the city. We explained to him again what we were doing and I told him not to leave the building until I called him. Then we headed down the street to the building where we were going to set up our hide. Now we wait.

—5 hours later—

I spot a woman walking down the sidewalk with a bag over her shoulder. I can’t get this wrong again. I need to make sure it’s really her before I take the shot. I see her duck into an alley between two buildings. I am pretty sure she is going into one of them. But, I am not sure which one. Spinaker suggested that we follow her and take her by surprise. But, I want to get her from here if I can. So I wait to see if I can spot her. But, she is better than that. I can’t see her from here. No trained sniper sticks their barrel through a window and the buildings are facing toward my left so theres no way I can see her. So, we decided to exit the building and try to get her from up close.

With all of the rooms and floors it is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. We needed to split up. So, we all grabbed our M4’s and headed over there. Bulldog took the smallest building and spinaker and I took the big one. We searched room to room, and floor to floor. When we got to the top floor spinaker yelled from down the hall, “I got her!” I continued to her location and she was holding birds eye up at gun point. I grabbed some plastic cuffs from my pocket and put them on her wrists. “You are coming with us,” I told her.

I told her, ”You are going to talk or you are going to stay in a cell for a very long time.
