Chapter 28

Jack

When they docked in Voltare the next morning, Jack couldn’t help but linger in his cabin. He turned over in his hands the hat she had used to tame her wild red hair. He’d picked it up from the floor of the bar. Get over her. Nothing happened. Did you see what she did? She’s dangerous.

A Siren or a witch, he told himself, but he couldn’t erase the look of surprise on her face. She hadn’t hurt that man on purpose, which is what he would have done had that gone on any longer. He looked around his cabin. It looked the same. It was like nothing had happened, but he couldn’t get her out of his head. Whatever she was, the magic she had was real. Had Adrienne's been too? He frowned, realizing he wasn't sure. One thing was for sure: he attracted the wrong kind of women. Kasha was different though, and he desperately wanted to see her again, no doubts in his mind that he'd have seduced her that night.

A knock came on his door, and he looked up in time to see Efren step in. “We’re home, Jack. Your mother is ashore waiting for you.”

He nodded and stood up, pulling the cap onto his head. He followed Efren up the stairs and out onto the deck where he was intercepted by Eddie. “Captain, the mayor wants to see you. The town is buzzing about it. Apparently, word got out about our voyage and the incident at the bar.”

Jack groaned. The mayor was the last person he wanted to see.
