Resuming Communication: The Rules of Talking

Now that you’ve taken the heat out of the back-to-back position and you’ve had a chance to evaluate, it’s time to resume communication. There are four rules at this point that must be established and followed:

Respect each other by listening.

Do not speak when the other person is speaking.

Let the other person finish talking, even if you disagree.

Establish a signal (a wink, a wave of the hand) that lets the other person know you would like to talk.
