JASE

The storm outside was raging. Although it was March and the weather was still frigid, I stood in front of the window without a stitch of clothing, watching the lightning and listening to the thunder. It was two in the morning, and a bad dream had woken me.

I glanced over my shoulder to check on Emilia. She was still fast asleep, lying on her belly, facing toward me. Her warm, naked body had been draped over mine, so I’d slipped out of bed as quietly as possible. Good, restful sleep was a luxury neither of us got very often, so the last thing I wanted to do was wake her.

Every now and then, her face was illuminated by the bad weather outside, and I smiled as I took her beauty in. There were no words to adequately describe the depth of my love for the woman lying in my bed, and I was the luckiest fucking bastard on the planet to be able to call her mine.

Something I planned to make permanent as soon as possible.

I turned back to the window, bracing my hands against it. The outside was tinted so we could see out, but nobody could see in. Our building faced Central Park, so the view was one of the best in Manhattan.

So many thoughts swirled through my mind. I was rich, powerful, and famous. I had more money than I could ever spend. I was in love with the most exquisite woman in the world, who also happened to be my business partner and best friend.

I had no idea how long I’d been standing there before I felt a warm body pressing up against me. Emilia’s arms slid around my waist, and her head rested against my back. I picked up one of her hands and kissed it. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“You didn’t.” Her lips brushed my shoulder. “Why are you awake at this time of the morning?”

“Bad dream.”

She didn’t respond for a few moments. “Do you want to talk about it?”

I kissed her hand again. “No.”

She slid around to my front, placing herself between me and the window. “You okay?”

“I am now.” I lowered my head and rubbed my nose against hers before our lips met in a soft, sweet kiss. “You should go back to bed, get some sleep.”

She kissed my jaw. “Not without you.”

I stroked her hair soothingly. It was all messed up, both from sleep and because I’d fucked her senseless before we’d drifted off. “I love you so much, Em.”

“I know you do.” Her lips trailed over my jaw and down my neck.

“There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you. I’d lie for you. I’d cheat for you. I’d steal for you.” I dropped a kiss on her head. “I’d kill for you.”

She lifted her face back up to mine, our lips inches apart. “I love you, Jase.”

“I’d die for you.”

I didn’t give her a chance to respond, instead closing the gap and kissing her. She moaned softly when I deepened it, sliding my tongue into her mouth.
