Chapter 5 - Angela
As Ray leaves, it occurs to me that I was acting like a whore in my own office just a few minutes ago.
“Dammit!” I curse out loud as my conscience starts tormenting me. Well, I won't say that I'm entirely a bad girl, neither am I ideally good like people would expect because of how I carry myself. The truth remains that I'm only human just like everyone else, with needs of my own to satisfy. Ray is only able to see through my strictness because we are friends. At the initial stage of our friendship, he wouldn't dare to flirt with me. Actually, I used to think that to an extent he was intimidated by me. But then, as time went on, our friendship grew to the point where we talked about our naughty past.
Reminiscing on the few sexual discussions and arguments we've had, I begin to smile to myself. Indeed, Ray has really hung on to me. Despite my mood swings and the insane level of my sarcasm when relating to him, he was still consistent. I like Ray so much, but I don't want to date him.
At this point, voices in my head ask, why?
He knows far too much about me,” I respond with my voice entering and echoing from the inside to the external environment.
I look at my wristwatch and I realize that it's already six-fifteen p.m.
“Ah! Come on, no!” I shout in frustration.
On a normal day, the my office section closes for business by four p.m., although most times I end up reaching home by six p.m., or much later than that if I have personal work from Mr. Price; it's clear that Ray and I have been going at it for the past four hours.
“That beast,” I cooed, giggling silently as I packed my stuff and headed for the door.
I'm about to lock my office when my phone starts ringing inside my bag. Looking at the screen, I hiss noisily as I pressed the 'accept call' icon.
“What is it? I said I'll call you when I'm home and rested, and not the other way round,” I firmly state to Ray at the other end.
It’s true, I enjoy and derive so much joy from attacking and badmouthing Ray. He too wouldn't miss an opportunity to do worse to me as well. Funnily enough, we are compatible in this aspect. Unfortunately, anyone listening to our conversation may likely think otherwise, but we're completely cool with the way we roll.
“I called to ask if we could go grab dinner together after you're done resting. Well, it's like you're too tired so...” Ray was still talking when I cut in immediately. “Ah! What the fuck, man?! So you're angry now or what? I'll be waiting for you to come pick me up at my place.”
I can hear Ray laughing out so loud at the other end.
“Oh! Time is seven-thirty p.m. Don't be late!” I tell him.
“Babe you're so not serious. I thought you wanted to rest?” Ray asks, trying to sound sarcastic.
