Survival Of The Wolf Moon

~SELENE BLEU~

* * *

“Farewell, Selene. May my power be bestowed upon you, Pyrrhus, and your pup.”

The words of my father echoed in my mind, the cataclysmic scene that plagued my nightmares for years repeating again and again in this never-ending cycle.

"I love you. Forever."

No. Not again. Please not again.

I wanted my next words to change, to break the cycle I’d been stuck in for hours, but the single scream left my shaking lips.

"DADDY!”

I watched the next few seconds happen in slow motion, leaving me in a frozen state of disbelief while the events unfolded before my eyes. I couldn’t do anything to stop the inevitable, as my hand that begged to carry some sort of force that could freeze time remained outstretched, trembling in helplessness.

It wasn’t until the thump of his body reached my ears and beginning barks of laughter and cheers echoed around me that it finally triggered time itself and I was left standing there.

Listening to their mockery while my father’s beheaded body lay at my very feet.

The sight flickered in and out, like a television station that struggled to get a hold of a signal, and the laughter and mockery grew louder in my intense state of internal devastation.

My father did everything he could to bring peace.

So why did he perish at the hands of villainous men?

"Finally,” a voice declared, and my head slowly turned until I caught sight of a man who stood in the shadows. No matter the darkness that fought to cloak his appearance, those red bandages that wrapped around his body carried a newfound recognition in the depths of my mind.

This man. I knew this man.

"Get rid of the girl.”

All eyes landed on me, but I stared at the man with eyes full of hatred. The anger revolted inside me, boiling and boiling like a pot of water that wished to be freed from the scorching heat of the fire.

He wished for my father’s death, just like all these men, and they deserved to perish.

They all deserved to die.

I didn’t expect the bullet that hit my body right at my chest, and the impact sent me flying back until I landed upon my father’s body on my backside.

Instead of clenching my chest that began to hurt with every breath I took, I gripped the soaked ground beneath me while my father’s body supported my back as I sat there in the pool of his blood.

All I could do was slowly look to see the bullet that hit me right in the center of my chest, but the pain was nothing compared to the agony I felt from my father’s loss.

"Got her,” the man a few feet in front of the bandaged individual cheered, and it rewarded him with claps, cheers, and chants of victory. But all that was cut off as the man in question began to choke.

The joyous hymns began to quiet down until all eyes were on their comrade as he fought for breath and began tugging at his top clothes.
