Chapter 9

Bank

The next morning, I was a mass of nerves. We were going to the clubhouse. Normally, it would be fairly empty on a Thursday morning, but I knew word had spread about what Karen did and how Bomber brought me home, so I suspected I’d be greeted by more than a few of the club brothers.

Bomber came up and gripped my shoulder as I drank the last of my coffee.

“Come on, Bank. Let’s get this over with. You’re all up in your head for no good reason. The club has your back on this. No one blames you.”

I nodded but didn’t really believe him. After I rinsed out the mug, I followed Bomber to the garage, both of us grabbing our cuts from the back of the couch as we passed by.

“Do you mind if I take my own bike?”

He shook his head. “Can’t lie and say I didn’t enjoy the fuck out of having you behind me yesterday, but I get the need to ride your own sled.”

Thankful my keys were in the bag of my stuff Bomber’s buddies had gathered from the hotel, I went over to my bike, running my hand over the leather. If I didn’t get a chance to take my bike out for even a day, I felt it. And with all the shit that had gone down in the last couple days, I really needed a ride.

“Is Scout waiting on us or can we go for a cruise first?”

He hit the door opener and waited for it to finish rumbling before he answered. “We got time to take a scenic route.”

With a grin, I finished gearing up and mounted my bike before I rolled out of the garage and waited for Bomber to join me. Then we were off, side by side, heading out of Bridgewater to the open roads.

Twenty minutes later, we pulled into the clubhouse. I was still nervous but much calmer after the ride. After I parked next to Bomber, we dismounted, took our helmets off and strode toward the front door. Whether Bomber was right or not about how the club was going to react, I wanted it over with.

As soon as I passed through the door, Scout and Mac stood from one of the tables and headed our way. Scout marched straight up to me, gripped my shoulder tightly and stared me in the eye.

“You doing good, brother?”

My throat clogged with emotion for a moment, forcing me to clear it before I could speak. “Yeah, I’m okay. Listen, Scout, I had no fucking clue she’d been dealing, I swear.”

He shook his head, cutting me off. “I know you well enough to know you weren’t in on her shit. And even if I didn’t, I’ve seen all the video feeds Jacie and Keys found, and it’s clear what went down. I got brothers out looking for the bitch. She’ll pay for pulling this shit.”

He released my shoulder as I nodded, not sure what else to say.

Bomber broke the moment when he wrapped his palm around the back of my neck as he spoke.
