Chapter Six
Quiet. The music of breathing and snoring (although Shane would deny it) muffled by stillness. The warmth wrapped around him even more sacred in the moment. Early Saturday morning.
Brent creaked open an eye. Light filtered through, white and lambent, not jarring like dawn could be. And late, the clock's glowing digits informed him. Nearly nine. He forced both eyes open and gently dislodged Shane's clinging fingers from him. Solid white filled the bottom half of the window, letting in a trickle of light that fought through the falling snow.
He grinned. A snow day.
Despite recent events, quiet excitement sparked in his belly. Like Christmas.
But he already had his presents lying in bed with him. He sank back onto the mattress, curled into the hands that reached for him, and closed his eyes. Soft covers, soft sounds, soft touches. A smile teased at the corner of his lips but danced no farther as he sank into the brilliant sound of snow on the window.
When he woke later, it was to whispers.
"Sorry," Shane murmured, brushing hair from Brent's face. "We didn't mean to wake you."
"You didn't." His voice was an abused rasp. He smiled, remembering why. "I woke up earlier, but was enjoying sleeping in." He squirmed, stretching and rubbing at the same time. "It's snowing."
"We noticed. Looks like our plans are going to be postponed."
"Yeah?" He lifted his head, blinking to clear his eyes so he could peek over Corey to Shane. "And what was that?"
"My secret." Shane grinned and winked, then tugged Brent over Corey to kiss him good morning. "You'll find out tomorrow if this clears up."
Brent kissed him in reply, then leaned down to kiss Corey before sinking into his pillow again. "So what do we do today, then?"
"Shovel," Shane groaned.
Corey grinned. "Play."
"Sounds like you guys are planning to wear me out today." They grabbed him, tickling, and he squirmed under the covers. Warm flesh against warm flesh.
When they finally stopped, he was between them on his back, a chest pressed to each shoulder. "Do you have an extra shovel for me to use?"
"We can take turns. That way none of us are exhausted. Plus we won't be sore as shit tomorrow."
"Awww." Corey pinched Shane's arm. "But I like massaging your big, tired muscles."
Shane arched a brow. "I didn't say you couldn't do that."
Corey laughed and dragged Shane closer to nip and kiss his lips. "Brat."
"Your brat." Brent saw the lips form the words, but no sound came out. Shane froze and pulled away. Brent didn't miss the glances cast his way. But he just swallowed down the not-quite-jealousy and hooked an arm around each of their necks.
"Maybe I'll give you both massages."
They tumbled in the bed for a little while longer, but eventually forced themselves to leave the cocoon of heat to pull on clothes and get breakfast. Hearty oatmeal and bacon to fuel them for the day. And it would be a full day. Even if there was no point to start shoveling until the snow
