Hurt

Mary

I try so hard not to hurt him when I push myself off the bed but he holds me tight against him.

Two days ago I was here when they brought him in on a stretcher. His wounds had been cleaned free of blood, free of filth and dirt, but the sounds escaping him were that of pain. Dr. O’Neil didn’t waste any time when she shoved a needle in his arm and I watched his eyes roll back before closing.

When they told me it would be a good twelve hours before he even wanted to wake up. When I was assured he would be fine, I waited until he was settled into the room and then I left because I wanted to make him dinner. Not pull something out of the freezer I wanted to make it fresh.

When Jax called and said not to bother coming in, my heart dropped for a moment and then he told me he was gonna be out for at least twenty-four more hours.

So for twenty-four hours I cooked. I made casseroles, pasta dishes, meats and potatoes, I cooked. I cooked because he said he would be home for dinner, and he is.

“I’m gonna hurt you,” I say against his lips.

He shakes his head no.

“You’re injuries—”

A whimper escapes my mouth and tears flow out of my eyes. I open my mouth to him and his tongue eases in. It rubs slowly up and down mine like he is savoring me. Nothing has ever felt so good to me in my life. Nothing.

“Damn it, Lieutenant,” someone says and I feel his smile against my face.

The way he is looking at me, is so intense that it’s hard to pry my eyes away from his, even in such an embarrassing situation I don’t want to move away from him.

I push myself up and he does the same.

“Well, we know that’s in working order,” a nurse says and I look at him.

His hospital gown is sticking up like a tent.

The nurse laughs at what I assume is a look of horror on my face as I look down.

I peer up at him and he points to his dick, then his heart, then clasps his hands together and mashes them like he’s making a snowball and then pretends to throw it at me. Then he puts both hands over his heart.

“Is that so?” The nurse laughs.

I don’t look at her. Quite honestly, I don’t like the way she is talking to him. I can safely say she is full on flirting.

“Did you hear that?” she asks and he shakes his head no.

“That’s the sound of all the nurses’ in this hospital hopes crashing to the ground Lieutenant.”

He shrugs his shoulder and then looks at me and points.

“Yeah I get it. Should I take down the flyer in the employee ladies room that says for a good time call Lieutenant Shadows?”

He smiles and nods.

“Alright then, let’s get you to the bathroom.”

He nods and stands. I have to force myself to not march up to her and help him myself.
