CHAPTER ELEVEN

Kelsey Tanner - Dinner Date

The weekend yacht cruise is less than a week away when I open my email to see a message from Kelly. She came through as promised and sent Michael’s transcripts. The email has an attachment. I’m hopeful it contains further information that can give me an insight into Michael’s past.

What I see shocks me but confirms my suspicion. There was one Michael Blake who attended Harvard University. His picture matches the man I met in the restaurant, but the dates he attended would be impossible for an ordinary human being. He mastered his entrance exams and graduated with a law degree on June 7, 1830. Michael is sloppy with his past. I would have never made a mistake like this.

Now I have the proof that Michael isn’t who he says he is. I need to figure out what he is, but first, I need to ensure he makes good on his word and does not decide to show up for the weekend cruise.

Best case, he’s a lower-level Light Being. They are typically sent here from time to time to check on things, keep the balance, blah blah blah. These lower-level Beings are no trouble for me. But, if he’s a warrior for the Lord of Light, then I have an immense problem on my hands.

These Beings are what humans call angels. They have the power to eradicate me from this realm forever. Usually, our kind lives in harmony with each other. Each does what is needed to maintain the balance. But I’m about to disrupt the balance by taking three souls at once under Michael’s watch. It’s going to attract attention.

I will worry about that when the time comes. Right now, I need to focus on the business of The Dark Table and my existence if I fail to complete the contract. I think it’s time to give Michael that return call he expects.
