âLâEnfer.â
Markus
Being Deverauxâs unofficial bodyguard sucks ass. Sure, the room he gave me is thrice as big as my apartment in Chicago. The attached bathroom features a Jacuzzi and a step-in shower the size of my hotel room. The downside? Iâve been here less than two hours, and I am already forced to endure Dasha and Deveraux. Together. I can barely keep the green-eyed monster in check.
âBoulder?â Deveraux holds open the car door. âYou ready?â
Ready to climb in the backseat of his Mercedes with him and Dasha? âAfter you.â
Dasha sits sandwiched between us. Her thigh bumps against my leg, sending an electric current straight down to my dick. Our make-out session at the gym feels like a lifetime ago. Now, sheâs so close, the memories come flooding back. Rosy nipples, soft skin, the way her lips felt on my neck. Jesus, Iâm beyond fucked. I canât even ride in the same car with her; how am I supposed to get through my assignment?
âAre you sure you canât join me, later?â Dasha bats her thick lashes at Deveraux. âShopping sprees are so much more fun when someone carries the bags.â
âSorry, babe.â Deveraux offers her an apologetic smile. âAngela and I have a meeting. We have to find vendors for the club.â Even if he didnât grin like the motherfucker he is, I could tell heâs lying. Not about the âmeeting Angelaâ part. But vendors arenât on the schedule. Unless they discuss them while sheâs riding him backward to Nirvana.
The insidious voice in the back of my mind questions why the fuck Iâm protecting an asshole like Deveraux. I remind myself this isnât about him. Itâs about catchingâpreferably killingâShadow.
Dasha rolls her eyes. âYouâre no fun, Will.â
He winks at her. âThatâs not what you say at night.â
My gaze darts to the door, the prospect of hitting asphalt at sixty miles per hour suddenly very tempting.
âWhatever.â Dasha is pissed. Canât blame her. Her boyfriend would rather fuck his assistant than spend time with her.
I wonder what Dasha would do if she found out the truth? Blame Angela? Or would she be smart enough to accept she wasted her time on a cheating manwhore?
âHey.â Deveraux cups her face. A little too rough for my taste. âDonât be upset, babe. Itâs business. But,â he bends forward, ogling me, âwhy donât you take Boulder?â
âWhat?â Dasha and I bark in unison.
Deveraux flashes his most charming smile. âIâll be at my mansion all afternoon. Weâve upped security, and I donât think anyone will come after me in my own house.â
You donât know the first thing about Shadow, idiot. He could kill you in Fort Knox if he pleases.
âWhat do you say, Boulder? Will you carry my girlâs bags and assure her she looks great in whatever she wears?â
Heat sears my skin. I look out the window, fighting the urge to strangle the jerk. âIâm nobodyâs personal shopper.â
âItâs okay.â Thereâs an edge to Dashaâs voice. It speaks of hurt. âIâll be fine on my own.â
Jesus fucking Christ. Why the hell do I feel guilty? He is her boyfriend and heâd rather fuck his mistress.
