An hour later, we were in his Learjet on our way back to Las Vegas. I had fallen asleep on the plane and woke when Lance shook my shoulder.

“Leila, we’re here.” I opened my eyes, lying against his shoulder. He stroked a lock of hair away from my eyes as a smile spread across his face. “Wake up, Sleeping Beauty.”

I looked out the window of his Learjet and it was pitch black outside. “What time is it?” I asked groggily, feeling like I could sleep for the rest of my life.

Lance smiled, amused by my expression. “It’s three o’clock in the morning.” He paused for a moment, making sure that I was fully awake before he moved. The plane was on the ground and at a complete stop, and I didn’t even remember landing. “Let’s get you to the castle and then you can go back to sleep.”

“Okay.” Then, I felt something flutter in my stomach and I instinctively lifted my hand to hold it. My stomach was definitely bigger and was hard, more so than with a normal pregnancy.

“Are you okay?” Lance asked, noticing my expression.

“I’m fine,” I replied. “I just need to rest. No more vampire orgies for a while. Okay?”

Lance laughed. “Okay. I’ll spread the word.”

“Hey, just not around me,” I amended. “They can do what they want when I’m not around.”

Lance chuckled, rising from his seat. “Come on. The limo’s here.”

I tried to get up but sank back down in my seat. My stomach hurt and I was exhausted.

“What’s wrong?” Lance asked, concerned.

“My stomach hurts.” I tried to get up again but winced. “And my back hurts, too.”

“Here.” Lance lifted me effortlessly into his arms and carried me down the stairs. I leaned onto his shoulder with my arms around his neck.

“Hello, Fredric.” Lance nodded to the driver, who was holding the door open for us.

“Good evening, sir.” He closed the door behind us after we slid into the limo.

“Fredric, I want you to keep this in your pocket at all times, understand?” Lance slipped a Bloodstone into his free hand.

“Of course, sir.” He slipped the stone into his pocket without looking to see what it was.

Lance nodded as he slid into the back of the limo beside me. I was relieved that he had already given Fredric one of the spelled Bloodstones. After all, someone may have already gotten to him, but even if they had, the Bloodstone would prevent any further compulsion. Lance wrapped his arm around me and pulled me to his side. I was so tired that my eyes closed of their own accord, and I fell asleep before we reached the castle, safe in Lance’s arms.
