The clinking of dishes wakes me from a sound, beautiful sleep. Squinting one eye open, I groan at the bright sunlight streaming through my bedroom window. I forgot to close the stupid drapes. I close my eye, snuggling deeper into my sheets, hoping to go back to sleep.

Then a radio turns on.

Flipping from my stomach to my back, I glare at the ceiling. Can’t even catch a break to sleep in on a weekend. I lie there for another minute, thinking that maybe the noise from downstairs will lower and I’ll be left on my own. At that exact moment the volume increases.

“Her bosom heaved as Captain Colburn dared to trace a single finger down the edge of her chin.”

Oh good.

It’s not the radio. It’s Aunt Aggie downstairs, listening to one of her historical romance audiobooks on the Bluetooth.

I have no choice now but to get up.

Tossing the covers to the side, I lazily and reluctantly slide to the edge of the bed. The flesh-toned bandage around my ankle is yet another reminder that I deserved to sleep in today. The emotional and physical turmoil of last night had left me more exhausted than I’ve ever been. I swear, even my bones sighed in relief when I finally got home. Being around Miller again was…well, I didn’t know what it was. Confusing, that’s for sure. But there were other emotions lumped in there too. Making me feel twisted and all out of sorts.

Whatever.

I slam my hands down oh my thighs, slapping myself out of it. It was a new day, a fresh start. And Miller Myers would play no part in it.

He was back home. Great. Fantastic. And now we could go on avoiding one another.

Yes, that sounded like a grand plan.

Testing the strength of my ankle before I slide from the bed, I make my way to the bathroom and begin my morning routine. After changing into the new yoga outfit I bought myself last week, a bright blue cropped sports bra and matching high-waisted leggings, I give my bangs one last finger brush before heading downstairs.

“He flicked her nipple with his tongue, playing with the delicate pebble. She moaned, reaching to bring him closer.”

“Jesus, Aunt Aggie. It’s too early in the morning to be listening to that,” I complain as I limp into the kitchen.

“Nonsense,” Aunt Aggie says, not missing a beat as she flips a French toast stick. “It’s never too early to be expanding your horizons. Plus, this story is just getting good.”

I give my head a little shake at her reasoning. Grabbing a mug, I pour myself a large cup of coffee with extra vanilla creamer. “I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, you can’t play the sex scenes out loud.”

“What malarkey,” she huffs. Her hand still clutches a dripping spatula as she turns to me, hands on hips. “I didn’t raise you to be a prude.”

It takes everything in me not to roll my eyes at her. I know that’s a sure way to be hit upside the head with a dirty spatula.
