The parallel backup and restore functionality captures the contents of a cache for analysis. "Each node backs up its own cache to its own server in parallel," and financial companies can use it to capture the contents of stock trade applications at certain points during the trading day to perform analysis on persisted information, Brinker said.

Aside from disaster recovery, the backup capability also ties into ScaleOut s in-memory map/ reduce capability to perform parallel analysis of data, he said.

Map/reduce is a software framework that allows large amounts of data to be processed in parallel across different nodes. That enables "what if scenarios for stock trading, Brinker added.

"This product is moving us out of just a distributed caching offering into distributed data grid," he said. "It adds an analysis capability; we are not just about storing data any longer." I

TestTrack RM links into existing Seapine issue tracking software to give managers a better handle on the shifting requirements that define their projects.

Rather than rely on e-mail-ing documents around an organization, TestTrack RM offers a Web-based interface for writing requirements. When one is changed, it can be linked to the issue database and the existing codebase, giving everyone on the team a better view of change as it happens.

TestTrack RM was released on August 4. Seapine declined to reveal any pricing details. I
