I protested that they would be raped in the restaurant and Steph laughed, “That’s the whole idea! We just want the rapists to be you two.” Kathy and Mom nodded. Chuck and I looked at each other in amazement, then we grinned at each other. We got their coats and piled into Mom’s car. The restaurant was dark and crowded when we arrived. We had to wait for our seats and I figured the maitre d’ was queer when he didn’t gawk at the women. Chuck agreed with me. Every other man in the lobby was either openly staring or trying to appear as if he wasn’t.

One old white headed guy, in an expensive suit, bowed deeply and complemented, “the lovely ladies.” Kathy giggled, but Mom thanked him sincerely. He smiled at her and I knew he was thanking God he had seen them before he died. I realized at that moment that women truly appreciated sincere flattery, if it was given courteously and with a smile.

Mom suggested we go in the bar to wait and there was uproar as they paraded in. Once again I felt intimidated by all the male eyes devouring them. We found a booth midway down the bar. I looked at Chuck. He appeared relaxed and confident. I took my cue from him and sighed as I let the tension ease. A waitress, in a skimpy costume, breezed over and gushed over the dresses. Mom thanked her and we ordered drinks. Steph and Kathy were glowing with excitement. Mom appeared calm, but her eyes were sparkling. The drinks arrived and with them, a middle-aged man approached the table, smiling and looking at Mom. She recognized him and stood. He reached to shake her hand and his eyes lingered over her tits.

Mom introduced us to him as John Anderson, a materials supplier. I stood to shake his hand and I was pleased that he didn’t try to bust my knuckles. He pointed over to a table across the way, where an attractive woman his age and a younger couple sat. He said they were his wife, daughter, and son-in-law. He told Mom she had two nice looking kids. He said it was nice seeing her and went back to his table. Mom sat and smiling calmly said Mr. Anderson was not a supplier to her company anymore.
