Chapter 15

The air hung heavy with malevolence, like a suffocating fog, as Fiona and Levi approached the abandoned house. The shadows seemed to twist and stretch, reaching out to them as if trying to snare their very souls. Fiona could feel her magic, once vibrant and alive within her, now stifled by the oppressive aura that enveloped the property.

"Can you feel it?" she asked Levi, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Like a weight on my chest," he replied, his hand instinctively moving to his heart.

As they neared the overgrown gate, Fiona noticed ancient wards carved into the rusting metal, obscured beneath tendrils of ivy. The symbols pulsed ominously, amplifying the dark forces saturating the area. She felt her heart race, a mixture of curiosity and trepidation coursing through her veins.

"Those wards," she said, pointing at the etchings. "They feel old. Powerful. I get the same feeling around them as I do when I’m on an ancient dig site."

"Designed to keep something in or someone out?" Levi wondered, his eyes narrowing as he studied the runes.

"Perhaps both," Fiona murmured, feeling the thrum of the wards against her fingertips when she reached to brush away the ivy. The hair on her arms stood on end, and her hazel eyes flicked from the carvings to Levi's concerned expression.

"Are you sure we should go in?" Levi asked, his gaze fixing on hers, searching for any sign of doubt.

"Whatever is in there... it needs us," Fiona said with determination, her anthropologist instincts urging her to delve deeper, to uncover the mysteries hidden within the decrepit walls of the house.

Together, they pushed open the creaking gate, its hinges protesting with a cacophony of groans and squeaks. As they crossed the threshold, the darkness intensified, the world beyond the gate growing dimmer with each step they took.

"Stay close," Fiona whispered, her voice trembling with the weight of their decision. They were venturing into the unknown, and she could only hope that their combined strength would be enough to face whatever lay in wait for them.

As they moved forward, Fiona's magic flickered like a candle in a storm, struggling against the malignant force that permeated the very air around them. She knew they had to tread carefully, for even the smallest misstep could unleash untold horrors upon them.

But even as the darkness loomed, Fiona held tight to the goodness within herself, bolstered by Levi's unwavering support.

The air hung heavy with the scent of decay and damp soil, as Fiona and Levi stepped cautiously through the overgrown garden. The gnarled branches of ancient trees clawed at their clothing, as if they sought to keep the intruders from entering the forsaken house that loomed before them. Eeriness pervaded the very atmosphere, making even the bravest heart quail.

"Are you sure about this?" Levi asked, his voice a hushed rasp, betraying the uneasiness he tried to mask.

Fiona glanced at him, noting the tension etched upon his face. "It's the only way we'll find answers," she replied, her own voice wavering. She tightened
