Chapter 36 - Devari

Devari made her way into the lounge where Lady Spellcraft was waiting, looking to try an adult drink. Bangles the cat had already found his way in, sitting on Zoe’s lap with all three dogs laying around the ‘L’ shaped sofa.

“Traitor,” Devari murmured with a smirk.

Lady Spellcraft sat on the bend next to Zoe with a glass crystal flagon, three tall-stemmed glasses tucked in between her fingers. She crossed her legs toward her and set the glasses down gracefully on the table in front of her. Devari sat next to Lady Spellcraft, across from Zoe. One by one Lady Spellcraft poured a bubbly pink drink, handing the first to Devari. She peered down into the glass and smelled something like berries and spice. Lady Spellcraft was already working on hers as Devari took a sip. The strength of the flavor took her off guard at first, and she coughed. It wasn’t as bad as she thought it’d be, but it wasn’t great either. The flavor was sweet at first, before becoming a bit more sour at the end the longer she held it in her mouth.

Zoe made a delighted expression as soon as she sipped it.

“What do you think Devari?” asked Lady Spellcraft with a look of amusement as she had more.

“It’s not quite juice,” Devari admitted. “But I like it.”

“You’ll like it more by the time you’re through with that glass,” Lady Spellcraft grinned as she took a sip.

“I already like it more,” said Zoe as she raised her own to her lips.

Devari took another drink, this time with a bigger gulp. A distinct buzz went off inside her head mere seconds after she swallowed. It surprised her, so she took another one to see if it’d do the same thing. It did, except this time her body became warm and she felt a little floaty. Oh she liked that. She really liked that.

“So Zoe, have you given any thought about what you want to do now that your life is your own?” Lady Spellcraft reclined against the seat backing.

Zoe drank from the glass and looked at Devari. “Honestly I hadn’t gotten that far yet. I’m going to protect Devari during our adventures.”

“And what was that like?” Lady Spellcraft questioned.

“Utter shite,” Devari impulsively confessed.

Zoe almost shot bubbly out of her nose and leaned forward with a barely contained mouthful. Lady Spellcraft chuckled as she took another sip.

“Meet anyone interesting?” Lady Spellcraft wondered.

“A boy, and a really nice girl,” Devari finished her glass.

Lady Spellcraft poured her another one. “Tell me about them.”

“Aunt Annika,” Zoe spoke. “Should we really be interrogating her when she’s like this?”

“Is there a better time?” Lady Spellcraft flashed a mischievous smile.

“The girl likes me,” Devari flashed a self-satisfied simper and slumped back with her drink.

Lady Spellcraft looked unmoved.

“I see…” Lady Spellcraft replied. “Is that all that happened while you were gone?”

“Troy is there now. He’s a quenchless queefing quim, and I hate him,” Devari swirled her glass and watched the bubbles form a funnel in her drink.
