STEP 6

Transfer the position of any rails on to the face of the cladding if you haven’t already done so, and staple down on to all the internal structure of the flat to ensure a nice smooth surface. ‘On face’ flats require a second line of staples on each rail to achieve the flattest finish. Skipping this step, or only partially completing it, will potentially lead to the cladding bulging when painted, or being more susceptible to damage. With the sheet fixed down, crouch down so that the flat is at eye level and check that all the staples have sunk just below the surface of the ply. Any left sticking out should be hammered flush or pulled out with carpenter’s pliers. This should be done prior to trimming, as the base of the router will catch on any protrusions.
